That’s not to say it’s unenjoyable. Kai Greene, the sport’s philosopher king, is as fascinating, mysterious, and quotable as ever as he tries to find meaning in a life that no longer revolves around Mr. Olympia. Rich Piana lives up to his reputation as a dark horse (or is it black sheep?) of the sport, at one point confessing that he finds little meaning in family and that his biggest goal is to be as popular as Dwayne Johnson — so that everyone will want to wait on him. Iris Kyle shows a lot of pathos as she grapples with the reality that Ms. Olympia has been discontinued and that female bodybuilding is largely extinct, subverted by figure and bikini competitions. Social media celebrity Calum von Moger, meanwhile, proves that despite his farm boy niceness and mammoth Instagram following, he really doesn’t have the on-screen charisma to meet his movie star aspirations.
In 2005, Joanna was featured in a one-hour documentary called Supersize She, which was also broadcast in the US on The Learning Channel. The show followed her training leading up to the 2004 Ms. Olympia contest. The documentary talks about her life, her parents' feelings about her decision to become a bodybuilder and nude model, her physical changes, dieting requirements, and her passion for bodybuilding as well as all the sacrifices she made to become a professional bodybuilder. The documentary was a huge success in the UK and in the US.
Be careful about tooth decay from constantly snacking on fruit all day (especially dates). I had 4 cavities in a year on the raw food diet, but I only did the diet for 2 months of that year and I snacked on medjool dates and goji berries all the time. Frederick Patenaude had 30 cavities in a year on the diet if you read his book. That’s one reason to favour bigger meals and not snacking. But a dentist told me if you rinse your mouth out with just water after eating (any food) that will neutralize food acid.
Also, it’s better to let your digestive system rest for several hours between meals. Ordinarily not being able to eat big meals is a blessing, but perhaps not on this diet! So favour calorie dense fruits and cooked meals instead.
